Eczema is becoming a growing problem, especially for young children. It’s estimated that up to 30% of children will experience at least one patch of eczema before their second birthday. As any rash on a child can be alarming, it can be helpful to see actual pictures of eczema to ease your mind.
The cause of eczema is suspected to be an allergic reaction. This is known as atopic dermatitis. Generally, this is accompanied by other allergies as well.
Symptoms of Eczema
An eczema outbreak usually starts with itchy skin. In fact, the itching is usually the worst part, unless the skin starts to crack and bleed. After that, you will see very dry, thickened, or scaly skin. In fair skinned people, the rash starts red and may darken to brown. In dark skinned people, it may be a lighter color.
